A Giveaway . . With Love and Thanks

The Magpie's Fancy will be two years old on February 26th!

More than 280 posts into this adventure, I am still delighted, moved, and awed every single day by the people I encounter and the talent I see on blogs all over the world.

Thank you for inspiring and challenging me, for encouraging my crazy ideas, offering support when I've been low, and for kicking me in the pants when I've needed it, too.  In the blog world we make amazing friends, often without ever meeting face-to-face.  As Archie Bunker once said, "I got a lotta best friends--some of 'em I don't hardly even know!"

To celebrate two years, I am hosting a giveaway.  Please leave a comment between now and noon EST, Friday, February 25th, to be in the running for the prize.  And what is that prize?  Well, in keeping with my magpie nature, it will be a collection of wonders and curiosities that I am gathering together.  It will include something that glitters, something to read, something handmade, something vintage, and any other delicious treats that capture my heart.

I will announce the winner on Saturday the 26th.  Please feel free to enter no matter where in the world you live, whether you're an old friend of The Magpie's Fancy or a brand new visitor.  I'm just happy that you all are out there, making magic, and I thank you from the bottom of my magpie heart.

xo Gigi

  7. Dear Gigi, Congratulation on two years with your inspiring blog!
Have you ever read the small book "84 Charing Cross Road"... where people get to be friends across countries (even if they never meet in person)? It is one of my favorite books, and your blog reminds me of that book and that it is possible to connect with people on the other side of the world through writing.
I always look forward to read your new posts and are thankful for the nice comments you make on my blog. I hope to read many many more post from you in the future.

I love to read your blog, thank you for the inspiration you give all your followers....especially with "freewrite fridays"
I have bought the journal...now have to motivate myself to actually put pen to paper...but quietly tucked away in my little pile of "to dos" is the excitement and anticipation of beginning to write with your help.

  31. You were one of the first blogs that I found and immediately "followed". You introduced me to a new world of writing and expressing myself in ways that somehow help manage the difficult task of mothering teens. Your writing is inspiration and your "Free Write Friday's" are something I would have never had confidence to consider. Congratulations on a wonderful collection of writing.

  37. Hi Gigi,

I was in your poetry class 2 springs ago and have been sneakily reading your blog lately for inspiration. I wanted to tell you I love your blog - your beautiful writing and photos. Some nights I sit down to write and need a little extra something before I begin. I always end up finding something lovely here. Hope all is well with you.

I too congratulate you on 2 years blogging. More importantly, I thank you. Your posts are always inspiring, thought provoking, delicate, moving and human. I so love coming here (even though I've been so absent over the last few months due to personal diversions :).
Keep on please please please for many years. You are missing from my life when I don't drop by.
I think of you fondly as I look at a fabulous cigar box, fondle softly a glass heart and catch the glitter of precious buttons in the sun on my windowsill.

  44. My dear friend Gigi,
WOW.....two years....it seems only yesterday that I found your beautiful blog, your wonderful photographs and your inspiring posts. I think that it might have been your first giveaway that I won which, when I received it, was such a delight. So many treasures, all of which are still part of my world.....the shells and sea glass still sit on my mantlepiece and are touched daily, your book is read, often, and I am still using the lovely and pretty post-it's, as there were so many, and the sketch book gets used when I'm inspired. That is what I LOVE about giveaway's. I, too, have been blogging for nearly two years and have won quite a few giveaways which are all around my house and, everytime I walk past them, I think of the person who sent them to me, including you and, of course, Scout, who picked my name out !!
Thanks so much for being there and being you Gigi. Sorry if I've been AWOL over the past few weeks.....I have been celebrating my birthday virtually everyday since February 1st....I have been out so much ,show's, dinner's , lunches......I'm fit to burst !!!! I think that I have got to stop now !!
I know that whatever goes into your giveaway prize will be beautiful and magical and, whoever wins it will get as much pleasure as I have got from mine.
Happy Blog Birthday Gigi, and lots of love. XXXX

  45. But Gigi you have already given us the gift, YOU.
A pleasure knowing you, one day we WILL meet. I know that.
Happy Blog anniversary and I hope to read more with each passing year. Thank you for your support also, you've been an incredible friend.
    xoxo

  46. Gigi, I am commenting not so much to enter your giveaway as to offer up a gift of my own--a thanksgiving for the inspiration you have given to all your readers. Though I have yet to participate in the Free Write Fridays in reality, I have gone over and over them in my mind as I blindly muck through the humdrum of the everyday life of teaching and maintaining some pretense of housekeeping. And I have begun writing. I have always wanted to, but just have never jumped in feet first. Since stumbling upon your site I have commenced, putting my life into words. Faltering, yet progressing slowly but surely, the words are coming. And I thank you. I would not have done it on my own. Keep the inspiration flowing and I will keep slurping it up like water to a thirsty soul. And who knows, someday all this mental free writing I am doing may just find its way onto paper.

no no no, i insist! allow me ~ i ought to be thanking you!

seriously, dearest gigi ... you already GIVE us all SO much ...
meeting you here ... getting to know you ... embracing your friendship ...
    YOU are continuously a GIFT ... gorgeous, gleeful giving giggles, sharing gumption, graciousness and generosity ... g i g i ... ♥

a friend of mine is curious about blogging, so i was trying to tell her how it works and the bonds that do grow so beautifully ... she was so taken with the community spirit and thought that if she was to blog, she would be so wanting to meet her friends ...
i told her 'i know!' and the first person i would go see would be gigi ...
i would pick her up and we would jet about to tea and lunch and wine and laugh and cry with melissa and robin and kathleen and joyce and and man, we would need a big plane ... what a party!

seriously, you know how i value you, your friendship, your inspiration, your kindred spirit ...
so completely grateful for you ...
    thank you.

    i insist
    much love ~

  48. Will Scout be helping you to pick out the winner like I just saw done in last year's drawing? Scout is so sweet looking. To play on his/her name, I have family scouting around for a kitty for me since my lovely Bella died last month. I kitty-sat Thursday-Wednesday. Biscuit is his name; I miss him! Wish me luck on finding a kitty for me to love!

    ReplyDelete
  49. If I can't coax Scout to help, then Mr. Magpie will draw the winner from his new hat. Scout can be a little tricky, since she has a mind of her own, and I only have so much catnip! Best of luck to you with finding a new cat to love! There are so many beauties waiting to be adopted that I'm sure you'll find a treasure. x

  50. Oh, dearest one, how wonderful!! Please pop my name in the hat, do. It will do my heart good, even if I don't win!

On another note, I really need to find my way in Blogland again, don't I? I am missing it but still resisting it, smothered by Blog-Sloth-and-Torpor! What on earth will I do!!

You are a beacon in the trees for me, dear Gigi.

Miss you loads, and thank you for your comment on Carnival. :-)

  58. This seems a bizarre and wonderful coincidence to me, but I started blogging on Feb. 26 as well! I can think of quite a few bloggers who began in February; is there something about this month that makes us more-than-usually inclined to want to reach out?
