Simply Bloom

This spring, some of the first trees to blossom in my neighborhood grow just inside the gates of the old cemetery.  I took these shots a half hour before sunset.  What glorious light with which to work, what wonders to admire.

  1. Dearest Gigi,

That is my favorite time too for taking photographs from blossoms. That light makes them look like a fairytale... a story without words! You got a keen eye for that too!

    Lots of love,

    Mariette

  2. My dearest Gigi ~

The light just prior to sunset is always the most magical and makes the world dance.

  4. I just might have to start getting up earlier Gigi! Incredible shots and I am so envious of the blooming! We are a bit behind and I finally noticed that my Bradford pear tree is just starting to bud, once it blooms I know spring weather is very close behind and all the rest will follow. Another day of rain here.........yuck. Enjoy the weather, looks like it is much nicer there. XO

  5. The light before sunset is the most special of the day. Isn't it strange that the first trees to bloom were the ones in the cemetery. It goes to show you the cycle of life.

  7. Yes, that truly is the "golden hour," and I especially love how nearly translucent blossoms become at sunset.

I was thinking the same thing, Loree. It just seemed fitting to me that they were the first to bloom. x g

  11. Is this all from natural light!?? Beautiful! And I am surprised to these blooming in Maine before they are blooming here in RI...

  12. Yes, it's natural light, but I did process them quite a bit to get the color and tones I wanted. It's funny, over the weekend we drove out to western Mass, and they were a good week ahead of us in terms of bloom. Most fruit trees here are just beginning to blossom, but the the ones in our neighborhood cemetery are high on a very sunny hill, and I think they've got just the right micro-climate to bloom a little earlier than all the others. They make me so happy! :D

  15. Dear Gigi,
You might call yourself a writer but you have an incredible eye. You should add photo artist to your resume. These blooms are beautiful. I saw some lovely ones in Central Park on Sunday but did not have my camera with me (sigh!).

  17. And what lovely photographs. The sky grounded by something intricately beautiful in the foreground, makes a great subject.

  20. So soft and dreamy. I wish blossoms lingered longer on the branches. They come and go so quickly!
