A Glimpse . . .

. . . of sunlight through the basement window of the 50-year-old Cafe Pamplona on Bow Street in Cambridge.  I love this cafe.  It's one of the few establishments left from the old Harvard Square days when independents ruled.  Pamplona isn't shiny and sleek like Starbucks or Peet's or the countless other chains in Harvard Square now, but as Todd says, it reminds him (in a very good way) of the days when he was a young college student spending a summer abroad in Poland.  The perfect spot to hide out with a good book and a cafe con leche.

  1. Ohh! I want to go there, it looks like a place I would love. What are those little tubes? Are they sugar? Well, they look like honey or lip gloss.
I love your posts, Gigi! They make me so happy! (and usually hungry...)

  2. Oh, Cate, this is exactly the sort of place you would love!!! We'll go there next time you visit. Yes, those beautiful little tubes are sugar, which makes me homesick for London because they have them everywhere there (can you be homesick for a place you only visit now and then? London is my dream-home, so yes, dammit, I'm homesick for it). Thanks for being wonderful you, Cate!

  3. I will have to ask my "Massachusettes Gals" if they have heard of it and if I am really lucky, twist their arms to take me there ASAP. I just love the independents of... well... just about EVERYTHING! Granted there is a level of expectation when you go to a "chain"... but I rather prefer the adventure of the unknown! Thank you for visiting Oak Hill Lodge and special thanks for complimenting me on the gardens. That will give me courage to go onward ever onward, armed with my rainsuits to expand, enhance and enjoy!

  5. Hi, Oak Hill Princess! Another great Harvard Square coffee shop is Cafe Crema--amazing pastries and a really pretty place, a very chic indie hangout!
