And Still I Rise

April is National Poetry Month, so I thought I'd share this great reading from Maya Angelou. I'm helping my poetry workshop students prepare for a big reading that they are giving next week, and I know of no poet more inspirational to watch than Angelou. Enjoy!

  1. I seem to remember long ago sitting in your apt. on 7th in Bloomington, listening (for the umpteenth time) to Yeats' reading of The Lake Isle of Innisfree... so much like a song, but a deep, keening kind of a song... wish your students courage and good reading! (And if all that fails, give them the advice my mother gave me so many years ago: tuck a flask of whiskey in your purse).

  2. Oh, that Yeats reading is still one of my favorites! I think they came up with the flask idea without me! I am so in for it at the reading. We did a dry run today, and they were actually pretty darn good.
