A Dream Come True

Okay, I have been waiting to post about this because I didn't want to jinx it, but I can't wait any longer.  Todd and I are going to be living on Peaks Island in Casco Bay this coming fall!  He will be on sabbatical, working on two book projects, and I have a couple of writing projects underway myself, so we decided to rent out our place, pack up the kitties,  and head up to Maine for four months.  We have always wanted to do something like this, and after a really tough winter, we've decided that life's short.  We're both doing some extra work to gather up the funds, and we're just making it happen.  An added bonus is that we'll be near my mother and my sister and her family. Plus, Todd and I met, lived, and went to school in Portland, so Peaks and the whole Portland area are dear to our hearts.  We think of that part of the world as home--at least the home of our hearts if not always the place where we live.
Last week, we took the ferry over from Portland to meet with the realtor and check out some properties on the island (off-season rentals are cheap, if anyone is thinking this sounds tempting).  It was a socked-in day, but the ferry ride is always interesting, no matter the weather. Here's the dock at Peaks:

I couldn't take pictures of the house and water views that day--it was that socked in--but here's a photo of the cottage from the realtor's web page.  Behind the house is a large salt marsh.  In front of the house is a little road and then . . . the ocean!

  4. That sounds absolutely amazing! What a fabulous place to live, especially if you get to do it for a short time to "try it out".
Can't wait to see what you discover when you are settled~
