The Heart Takes Flight

On Newbury Street in Boston today we watched these amazing kids dancing, and I thought about how most students I teach tell me that Peter Pan was their favorite childhood story for one reason: the kids in the story could fly.

  1. They are just so clever, wow. It's amazing you managed to get such good pictures, considering how fast they look!

on previous comment, I have this gorgeous "little Lord Fauntleroy" book from the late 1800's, it's one of my fav's. Proberbly the earliest book with dustjacket intact is late 1920's ~ I think. (they are all in boxes at the moment while we are building our house). I loved collecting the original nancy drew books, because they had lovely dustjackets, but usually I only collect books that I actually read. My favorite is Arthur Upfield, I love his books and his original dustjacket designs.

  2. I love Little Lord Fauntleroy! What a wonderful early edition to have. Burnett is one of my favorite authors, and her early editions are wonderful. Oh, and Arthur Upfield's dust jackets are amazing! I hear that his books are getting harder and harder to find here in the US. One of my favorite books in my collection is a Maurice Sendak first edition that I bought this year at a charity shop! Don't you love when you find treasures in unexpected places?!

  3. You just get so excited!

It became so much easier I must admit, to add to my collection when someone showed me ebay. Opened up the world as far as book collecting was concerned. I have most of A. Upfields books now, I prefer the English (Heinemann) 1st editions.

I also love Patricia Wentworth book covers and stories (I know they are extremely lightweight, but I like the era)and I prefer the US covers for those.

  4. I love the hearts on the shoes...and it is so fitting since their souls are filled with happiness by the dancing of their feet!
