Jack Kerouac wrote in On the Road that "Everybody goes home in October." Here in New England, where he grew up, this is certainly true. The sudden turn to chill calls us back to the hearth, to warm blankets, and late-night toast with cinnamon. The shift in temperature here on the island has coaxed out all my nesting instincts. Here are some images that I'm dreaming about this week.

We had a most delicious weekend with all of our nieces and nephews here at the cottage. Today, though, I am feeling a bit under the weather, so I'll hold off on sharing more about that until I have a little energy.
A big thank you to Carole at Maynard Greenhouse for mentioning The Magpie's Fancy in a recent post and to Dustjacket Attic for giving me a "Spread the Award" award. You girls are the best.
oh my my my my my ... dreaming right along with you my friend! i was happy dreaming about the first image ... thick plaid wool blankee wrapped around tight in front of the outdoor fireplace ... mmm ... and then that alluring driveway ~ easy does it the wet leaves could be slippery ... and then it just got better and better and better!
ReplyDeleteso happy you have had such a great weekend, but very sorry you are now under the weather ...
snuggle in dear gigi, close your weary eyes and dream ... and do be well soon ...
thank you for coming by today ~ you are sunshine on a cloudy day!

I hope you feel better soon. It is cold so early here this year that my need for nesting has also come out. I've been cooking soups and stews.

Close your door and crack your windows to let in the brisk air. Snuggle down and sleep. Feel Better.
ReplyDeleteWonderful collection of autumnal photos! I adore those gothic kitchen cabinets and that second photo of the gold leaves on the driveway looks so like what I shall be seeing out my own window in just a few weeks!!
this is all, so lovely. i want to wrap myself in a blanket, and read country living. is that one of the latest issues?
ReplyDeleteso, so cold here.

Suddenly I'm craving for a slice of warm pumpkin pie & a large mug of hot chocolate with a dash of nutmeg somehow...
ReplyDelete~Just lovely Gigi! XO*
I'll just pull up a chair if I may, love your images darling, especially the second .. do hope you'll feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the mention honey,

I love all these images, Gigi....even though it's just starting to cool down where I live - I am in a definite nesting mood..so these photos just sing to me! Take good care of yourself and feel better soon! XXOO
ReplyDeleteSigh. You and I (and many others, I can see) love so many of the same things. Isn't it all so lovely?
ReplyDeleteYours is a wonderful wonderful blog.
ReplyDeleteGigi,
ReplyDeleteI could easily sit in one of those chairs in the first image for hours until the sun went down, and then I would race to that comfy sleigh bed and snuggle in with my favorite book and handsome hubby!
Hope your back feels better soon! Poor sweet you....
Bisous,
Melissa
Hmmm...I just love all these images but am particularly enamoured with the image of the house with the leaf-laden driveway...could quite easily see yself rocking on home there of an evening :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful gate with those fallen leaves!
ReplyDeleteI'll take one of everything here...LOL! Those are dream room--indoors and out! That outdoor fireplace is really tickling my fancy... And wrapped in a sari quilt in front of an outdoor fire--bliss! Gorgeous collection of delights, Gigi... Happy Day :o) ((HUGS))
ReplyDeleteI'm so envious! I dream all year of autumn and winter - open fires, all rugged up for long walks, falling leaves, hot chocolate ... hope you're warm and cozy and feeling better. Leigh
ReplyDeleteAnd a companion Talking Heads quotation: "Home is where I want to be, but I guess I'm already there." It says a lot, but it also says a bit about interior decoration, though that may not be quite what they intended.
ReplyDeleteFall is when I miss New England the most, each and every year. I don't know if I can really call the East Coast "home" since we lived so very many places, but it is where I was born, and where I went to college - and those are two very formative times of life. I am terribly happy in Colorado and I can't think of anyplace on earth I'd trade for it, but there is no rivaling a New England fall.
ReplyDeleteThe best time of year here in New England and you have captured it well with all these inspirational photos...Love that Kerouac quote!
