Inspiration: October

Jack Kerouac wrote in On the Road that "Everybody goes home in October."  Here in New England, where he grew up, this is certainly true.  The sudden turn to chill calls us back to the hearth, to warm blankets, and late-night toast with cinnamon.  The shift in temperature here on the island has coaxed out all my nesting instincts.  Here are some images that I'm dreaming about this week.

I don't recall where I found this!
If it's yours, please let me know so I can credit you!  It's beautiful.

We had a most delicious weekend with all of our nieces and nephews here at the cottage.  Today, though, I am feeling a bit under the weather, so I'll hold off on sharing more about that until I have a little energy.

A big thank you to Carole at Maynard Greenhouse for mentioning The Magpie's Fancy in a recent post and to Dustjacket Attic for giving me a "Spread the Award" award.  You girls are the best.

  2. I hope you feel better soon. It is cold so early here this year that my need for nesting has also come out. I've been cooking soups and stews.

  3. Close your door and crack your windows to let in the brisk air. Snuggle down and sleep. Feel Better.

Wonderful collection of autumnal photos! I adore those gothic kitchen cabinets and that second photo of the gold leaves on the driveway looks so like what I shall be seeing out my own window in just a few weeks!!

  10. Gigi,
I could easily sit in one of those chairs in the first image for hours until the sun went down, and then I would race to that comfy sleigh bed and snuggle in with my favorite book and handsome hubby!
Hope your back feels better soon! Poor sweet you....
    Bisous,
    Melissa

  14. I'm so envious! I dream all year of autumn and winter - open fires, all rugged up for long walks, falling leaves, hot chocolate ... hope you're warm and cozy and feeling better. Leigh

  15. And a companion Talking Heads quotation: "Home is where I want to be, but I guess I'm already there." It says a lot, but it also says a bit about interior decoration, though that may not be quite what they intended.

  16. Fall is when I miss New England the most, each and every year. I don't know if I can really call the East Coast "home" since we lived so very many places, but it is where I was born, and where I went to college - and those are two very formative times of life. I am terribly happy in Colorado and I can't think of anyplace on earth I'd trade for it, but there is no rivaling a New England fall.
